Firefox, Linux and Flash Transparency

I just discovered this hack to make it possible to use html-above-embedded flash. I'm continually disappointed with Adobe and Mozilla for ignoring this long standing and very annoying bug. At least there is a hackish solution that will work for some but it doesn't really solve the problem, just helps only a little bit. Thanks to marcoos for figuring it out by reverse-engineering the google video site and thanks to google for providing the solution for our reverse-engineered pleasure . . . ;)

Make no mistake, this hack

Make no mistake, this hack has nothing to do with transparency. As marcoos says, it is just about maving a div on top of a flash movie. The only reason the flash seems transparent is because it has the same background color as the body. It is no way transparent. Just change the backgroundcolor to see it. Unfortunately it is not possible to have transparent flash movies in firefox (2 or 3) under linux.

Looks like a fix is finally here

Flash Player 10 supports transparency on Linux when using Firefox 3.

Flash Player 10

The latest version crashes the browser on Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.
